Welcome to Rokeby

Welcome to Rokeby

I am the Headteacher of Rokeby School, and it is my privilege to lead a school that is committed to bringing out the best in every student. As one of the only all-boys schools in the borough of Newham, East London, Rokeby is uniquely positioned to provide an environment tailored specifically to the learning styles and social needs of boys. Our goal is to ensure every student excels both academically and personally, in a safe and stimulating environment.

At Rokeby, our vision is built upon five core values: Respect, Success, Passion for Learning, Personal Challenge, and Harmony. These values guide everything we do, ensuring that our students grow not only in their academic achievements but also as well-rounded individuals. We take great pride in our academic outcomes, with particular success in English and Mathematics. Our students’ progress in these subjects has consistently exceeded the national average for boys, reflected in our impressive Progress 8 score which has been above national average for the past three years.

Rokeby is part of the Newham Community Learning Trust, a family of schools dedicated to providing high-quality education across the borough. As part of this trust, we share a collective ambition to foster excellence in teaching and learning, preparing our students for the challenges of the modern world. Our broad and balanced curriculum ensures that every student has the opportunity to discover their strengths, explore new interests, and develop lifelong passions. Every boy studies a modern language to GCSE level, and many achieve early success in mathematics and languages, building confidence that transcends linguistic and cultural barriers.

Alongside academic success, we place a strong emphasis on sports, arts, and enrichment opportunities. Our boys have access to a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities including football, athletics, basketball, music, drama, and creative arts. Many of our students excel in these areas, representing the school and the borough in competitions and performances. These experiences build teamwork, resilience, and leadership skills that prepare them for life beyond school. Our commitment to student leadership further strengthens this, offering boys the chance to take on responsibility and develop confidence as young leaders within our school community.

We have high expectations for all of our students. Our dedicated staff work hard to provide tailored support for every learner, from our most able students to those who need additional guidance. This targeted support ensures that all students, regardless of their starting point, can achieve their full potential. By working closely with parents, carers, and other stakeholders, we have created a dynamic and innovative learning environment that prepares our students for the challenges of today’s world. Rokeby offers a broad and balanced curriculum, designed to meet the individual needs of our students. Every boy is entered for a language GCSE, and we are proud of the early success our students experience in mathematics and languages, which transcend linguistic barriers and foster confidence from an early stage. Beyond the classroom, our enrichment activities further broaden students’ horizons, with opportunities in everything from sports to creative arts.

At Rokeby, our mission is clear: to give every boy the knowledge, skills, confidence, and experiences they need to succeed — not only in their secondary school journey, but also in further education and adult life. I look forward to welcoming you to Rokeby School in Newham, where together we ensure that every student leaves prepared to excel in an ever-changing world.

Jo Doyle – Headteacher
