Student Representation

Student Representation

At Rokeby, there are many of opportunities for students to gain leadership experience and take part in the school’s decision-making processes, through participation in both our Student Voice and Student Leadership programmes.

Student Voice

At our school, we believe that student voice allows students to have a say about what goes on within their scholastic community and to be active participants in the school community. Student voice helps students to participate in and contribute to a number of processes at school, with the following broad aims:

  • To gather the students’ views on aspects of school life by liaising with the Tutor Representatives in their Year Group;
  • To enable students to participate in making changes that have an impact on the quality of education delivered to them;
  • To represent students’ views at School Council meetings so that these can be fed back to the school’s leadership team;
  • To help to identify areas of school that would benefit from improvement;
  • To raise with the student body issues which are a cause for concern;
  • To give students an insight into citizenship and effective leadership; and
  • To represent the student body in meetings with visitors

Consultation and Engagement

As part of the school ‘Equalities Information and Objective Statement’, the Student Council will engage and consult with the student body, in order to develop our awareness and information, learn about the impact of our policies, set equality objectives and improve the service we provide.

Student Leadership

At our school, we expect all our students to be leaders of their own learning and promote positive change in our school community. We hold Husting Week in May every year and all students have the opportunity to put themselves forward as the Student Leader. Following interviews with the outgoing Student Leaders and key staff, manifesto promotion and assemblies, we hold elections for our new Student Leadership Group. These students will have demonstrated commitment to the school community, being active participants in the academic and cultural life and role models for others. These Rokeby School Ambassadors will meet regularly with members of the leadership team to discuss how together we achieve our vision for our school.

Aims and objectives

The aim of the Student Leadership is to:

  • Assist with the decision making of the school;
  • Empower students to work in partnership with staff towards shared goals;
  • Enable creativity to flourish, as the school community benefits from the wealth of experiences, ideas, skills and sense of fun that students bring;
  • Prepare students for higher education and for achieving personal and professional excellence in life after formal education; and
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop leadership skills through a variety of projects that impact positively on learning, teaching and wellbeing for both students and staff.
