Our Curriculum Offer

Our Curriculum Offer

Overview

At Rokeby, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum that prepares students for further education and employment, equipping them with the qualifications, knowledge, skills, and values they need to succeed.  Our detailed Curriculum Model for 2024-25 provides an overview of our offer.

Our school was purpose-built in 2010, and is a bright and contemporary site, which benefits from large classrooms and generous outdoor space.  Facilities include ICT, technology and music suites, an Olympic standard six court indoor sports hall, a fully equipped gym, a dance studio and a performance theatre. Outside, we have the exclusive use of a multi-use games pitch, a fitness trail, and and outdoor dining area.

Key Stage 3: Years 7, 8 and 9

Our Key Stage 3 curriculum spans three years, allowing students to study the full range of national curriculum subjects and build a strong foundation for Key Stage 4 and beyond.

  • We teach core subjects – English, maths and science – in ability sets to stretch the most able and provide support where needed;
  • All other subjects are taught in tutor groups, fostering strong academic and pastoral relationships.

At Key Stage 3, all our students study the subjects below.  For detailed information regarding what is taught at in each of these subject areas at Key Stage 3, please see our Curriculum Content page.

  • English
  • Science

  • Religious Education
  • Technology – Graphics, Product Design, Engineering and Food Technology
  • Computer Science
  • Art
  • Drama
  • Music
  • Physical Education
  • Dance
  • RSHE/PSHE – integrated across the curriculum subjects

Additionally, students literate in a community language are encouraged to take a GCSE in that language before the end of Key Stage 3.

Key Stage 4: Years 10 and 11

At Key Stage 4, students continue studying core curriculum subjects while selecting two ‘option’ subjects that align with their interests and career aspirations. This provides a broad range of academic qualifications to support future studies and career pathways.

Students choose their GCSE options in Year 9. For detailed course content and assessment information, refer to our Year 9 Options Booklet for 2024-2026.

For detailed information regarding what is taught at in each of these subject areas at Key Stage 4, please see our Curriculum Content page.

Use of technology to support learning

At Rokeby, we work to ensure that students have access to online resources that we believe will support their learning.  We document and publish all sites that students interact with at our school so that parents and carers are aware of the sites their children are using.

Our remote learning offer

Our provision is structured around in-school learning.  However, we also have arrangements in place for remote learning should this be required, which can be accessed here.
